HISTORICAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT
MISSION STATEMENT:
The mission of the Mansfield Historical Museum is to collect, preserve and interpret objects and archival
documents in order to educate the public about the history of our community.
Department at a Glance
FY 2019-2020 is the first year for the City of Mansfield to own and fully operate the Historical Museum
in downtown Mansfield. Previously, the building was owned by the Mansfield Historical Society and
operated by the City with the help of volunteers. Also for the first year, a separate budget was established
in FY 2019-2020 to track expenditures for the Man House, which will serve as a secondary museum for
citizens and visitors to learn about local history. The Man House is the residential home of Ralph Man,
one of the founders of the City of Mansfield. The city will be restoring the 100+ year old house, and it
will be staffed with a part-time employee. The Historical Services Department includes the Museum
Director and a part-time clerk added in FY 2019-2020.
