COMMISSION FOR THE ARTS DEPARTMENT
MISSION STATEMENT:
To advocate and promote artistic, cultural, and educational opportunities to enhance the quality of life in
our community.
Department at a Glance
The Mansfield Commission for the Arts is a nonprofit organization with a vision to make Mansfield a
regionally recognized destination for cultural activities. The Commission for the Arts budget increased
28.74% in FY 2019-2020 due to a merit adjustment, the addition of one part-time position, and approved
funding increases for promotions and special events.
Key Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Improve facilities and services offered by the Farr Best Theatre.
Objectives:
• Create a plan for renovating/remodeling the Farr Best Theatre.
• Increase the number of rental events at the Farr Best Theatre.
• Increase the quality and quantity of City-produced shows at the Farr Best Theatre.
Goal 2
Raise the profile of the Arts in the City of Mansfield.
Objectives:
• Bring the Mansfield International Film Festival back to the Farr Best Theatre.
• Develop a strategic plan for the theatre/downtown with the goal of a state-level cultural district
designation in Historic Downtown Mansfield.
• Actively pursue requests for proposals for an Arts event/conference to come to Mansfield.
Goal 3
Coordinate with local arts organizations to effectively promote cultural events and create “Arts and
Cultural” tourism packages for visitors.
Objectives:
• Work with area arts organizations to effectively schedule events and activities to create a critical
mass of area cultural events on any given day to attract cultural tourists.
• Book a select number of Farr Best Theatre events to coincide with other activities to encourage
tourists to extend their stay.
• Plan Mansfield Commission for the Arts events that promote the Arts in Mansfield and give
cultural tourists a reason to visit.
Performance Objectives
• Improve and expand the operations of the Farr Best Theatre.
• Actively promote the Arts in the City of Mansfield to increase the number of events.
• Work closely with the Mansfield Convention and Visitors Bureau and local organizations to
create “Arts and Cultural” tourism packages for visitors.
