Lead Kennel Technician

               Organizational Excellence

               General Fund Police Recurring $64,574

The Animal Shelter requests supplemental funding to add one Lead Kennel Technician to address increased
service demand and support operations associated with the expansion of the shelter facility and recognize the
increased operational and supervisory responsibilities beyond the scope of the current Kennel Technician
               classification.

The position will provide lead support in key program areas essential to shelter operations, including oversight
of the volunteer program, training volunteers in proper animal care procedures, and assisting with the
onboarding and training of new employees in animal care practices and daily shelter protocols. As shelter
operations have grown, there is a need for a broader role in coordinating volunteer involvement, promoting
consistency in animal handling and care practices, and ensuring new staff and volunteers are properly trained
to support safe, humane, and effective shelter operations. These duties require additional accountability,
leadership, subject matter knowledge, and ongoing coordination that are more appropriately aligned with a
               lead-level classification.

This request will be reconsidered in 2027 after the renovated Animal Shelter is operational.
