Summary:
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will be releasing new policies regarding Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) in
the Hobby category. Airport staff will review the new policies and develop strategies to educate the public on how to
properly fly UAS. The Airport website will be updated with information about the new rules and regulations, including
hyperlinks to FAA instructions on how to register a UAS, and obtain waivers to fly. The North Central Texas Council of
Governments (NCTCOG) has released a Request for Proposal for consulting services, to assist public agencies in
developing community engagement regarding safe UAS operations. The Airport will partner with NCTCOG’s vendor to
host virtual workshops for UAS owners and teach the proper ways to operate a UAS in the region’s congested airspace.
The Airport will continue to monitor FAA notices for policy changes and update educational materials as needed.
Update:
The Airport continues to monitor FAA policy changes, including new policies on Remote ID and flight over people. The
Airport continues to have a presence on the NCTCOG’s UAS Safety and Integration Task Force. Airport staff is currently
monitoring the UAS detection pilot project ongoing in the Entertainment District and will evaluate possible Airport use in
the future.
