BUDGET OVERVIEW
COUNCIL GOAL 4:
FINANCIAL STABILITY
Strive to get the best value for taxpayer dollars and
to ensure that the city has the financial
resources available to invest in community
priorities.
Objectives:
Continue pay-as-you go where possible
Maintain a stable tax rate and predictable income stream
Update the long-range financial plan annually
Maintain cash reserve policies
Maximize targeted grant funding
Identify and evaluate funding alternatives for achieving our strategic vision
Accomplishments:
The Library was awarded a $30,000 grant from Institute for Museum of Library Services
to expand services at The Maker Spot. The grant funded 75 kits for the public to learn
about robotics, 3D printing, painting and other topics. The Maker Spot was enjoyed by
more than 28,000 visitors during the past year.
The Parks Department was awarded more than $1.4 million in grants throughout the year
for improvements to our parks, trails and rights of way.
The Police Department was awarded $1.2 million in grants for equipment and staffing to
help combat domestic violence, as well as gang and drug activities.
In FY 2017/2018 the City Council lowered the property tax rate by 2-cents without cutting
city services. The reduction was possible due to an increase in existing property values
and new construction added to the tax roll.
