Summary:
The Records Services Unit serves as the repository Number of Open Record Requests
for the official records that document the activity of 1,800
the Police Department. The Texas Public
Information Act is a state law that gives any person 1,600
the right to submit a written request asking for any 1,400
document related to official city business. The 1,200
department handles both ORR (Open Record

Requests) from the public and IRR (Inter‐Agency
Record Requests) from other law enforcement 800
agencies or segments of the criminal justice 600
system. The department must provide a response 400
within 10 business days regarding the status of a
request, including if it was submitted to the Attorney 200
General to rule whether or not the material is ‐

to look for ways to expedite information for citizens
