1.1.5 Cat Intake
Summary:
Animal Services’ management submitted a grant Cat Intake
request to Petco Foundation in the amount of 4,000
$32,100 on September 22, 2019. If approved, 3,900
we will use these funds to reduce cat intake by 3,800 3,866
partnering with the Texas Coalition for Animal 3,700 3,764
Protection (TCAP) to host a monthly domestic 3,600 3,704
cat and feral cat spay‐neuter clinic at our animal 3,500
shelter for 50 feral and owned cats – 600 over a 3,400
12‐month period. We believe this will have the 3,300 3,381
biggest impact on reducing the number of cats 3,200 3,273
coming into the shelter. The monies will provide 3,100
600 sterilizations ($24,000); 600 rabies 3,000
vaccinations ($3,000) and the additional medical 2,900
needed for cats pregnant, in‐heat or cryptorchid FY 2016 FY 2017 FY 2018 FY 2019 FY 2020
($5,100).
Update:
Petco Foundation approved the grant request on
February 13, 2020, in the amount of $35,000
($2,900 more than requested) and funds were
th
deposited on March 6 . TCAP created
promotional materials including flyers, Facebook
ads and Instagram ads, which were approved by
the Petco Foundation. TCAP began transports on
th
March 13, 2020. As of the end of the 4 quarter
of FY 2020, 915 cats have received free services.
Due to the addition of in‐house clinics that began
in May, AAS was able to provide services to 50
percent more cats than originally planned, and
there is still over $3,000 remaining to spend.
