Summary:
The City of Arlington Water Utilities entered into the 6" ‐ 15" Sewer Lines Cleaned
Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) Voluntary Initiative (Linear Feet vs. Total Footage)
established by the Texas Commission on Environmental

Quality (TCEQ) in 2005. In order to participate, the City
of Arlington agreed to evaluate its sanitary sewer system 25%
and develop an action plan that includes a schedule of 20%
dates detailing when corrective or preventative
maintenance will occur. Arlington Water Utilities has 15%
also established a goal of cleaning 20% of sewer lines 6” 10%

During the 4 quarter 558,961 linear feet of 6” to 15”
sewer lines were cleaned, which equates to 8.57% of the
total linear footage. Additionally, targeted cleaning and
root control methods are being utilized in areas where
seasonal rainstorms have generated multiple overflows
and increased the growth of root intrusions into the
sanitary sewer system.
