Accomplishments of FY2022
Parks Maintenance
◊ Installed new fence at the Veterans Memorial.
◊ Assisted in completion of Broadway Park project – worked with Public Works to improve/
replace the double-check and irrigation tie-ins.
◊ Assisted with moving Seniors into new building – building furniture, storage cabinets, game
tables. They also improved the landscape, installed new sod, and picnic benches and a
table.
◊ Continued to maintain and improve all parks, landscape, and irrigation systems throughout
the City.
Recreation Division
◊ We increased our rentals from 1 to 3 rentals a month.
◊ We held a successful summer camp and increased our numbers from last year. Last year
we averaged 18 campers a week, in 2022 we averaged 25 kids weekly.
◊ We successfully added our adult basketball league, increasing the teams from 4 to 8 teams
in the first year.
◊ Increased sports participation by adding two teams each season to each sport.
◊ We had a successful spring soccer season with 190 kids registered, fall soccer season 212
kids registered, and volleyball season 61 individual sign ups and 2 teams.
◊ Increased overall recreation revenues by $25,000 over last year.
◊ We had to postpone our Carfest Event, but we successfully gave out candy, food, and bags
to over 200 residents. We also moved forward with all events in person.
Senior Center
◊ Held a Grand Opening Ceremony and Ribbon Cutting with the Chamber, Dallas Cowboy
Cheerleaders, many City staff, Commissioner Fickes, Senator Kelly Hancock, and State
Rep Stephanie Klick.
◊ Celebrated the Center’s 49th anniversary with a Derby Day theme complete with stick horse
races, hat contest, mint julips, and BBQ lunch.
◊ Have increased number of participants by almost double the number from the old center
(post-COVID).
◊ Partnered with Metroport Meals to supply meals from restaurants every Monday for just $5
for center participants. This has been a huge success. Wednesdays are Lunch & Learn’s and
our presenting sponsor provides lunch. Fridays we have local churches provide lunch. On
Tuesdays and Thursdays, we have a smaller crowd and center friends and other sponsors
provide meals.
