CITY OF HALTOM CITY ANNUAL BUDGET, FY2023 General Fund
LIBRARY
Mission Statement
The mission of the Haltom City Public Library is to serve as a vital community resource providing
free access to information for all people.
Accomplishments of FY2022
◊ Awarded Texas State Library and Archives Commission Regional ILS Grant in collaboration
with other MetroShare libraries to pay for ILS and courier for FY22, saving $16,096 from the
General Fund.
◊ Upgrade the public computer and print management programs.
◊ Began offering wireless printing service.
◊ Completed reclassification the Children’s Fiction and Children’s Spanish sections.
◊ Created a “Middle Zone” graphic novels section to better serve children ages 9 to 12.
◊ Partnered with BISD to offer community work experience to two students in their vocational
adjustment program.
◊ Received a grant for board games.
◊ Awarded TMLDA’s Achievement in Library Excellence for the 15th consecutive year.
◊ Received $2,500 Texas Book Festival Grant for Collection Enhancements. This grant was
used to purchase works of classic fiction in Spanish and Vietnamese.
◊ Resumed full programming schedules.
◊ Added a mobile app for the library catalog.
◊ Partnered with Goodwill Industries to offer a series of computer classes.
◊ Partnered with Tarrant County Public Health to offer health classes and COVID vaccine
clinics.
◊ Awarded Community Advancement Package Grant through the Texas State Library and
Archives Commission for $5,954 to enhance the Spanish and Vietnamese book collections.
◊ Partnered with BISD and libraries in Hurst, North Richland Hills, Richland Hills, and Watauga
for “Birdville Reads,” attended by 600 people.
◊ Added new monthly programs for school-aged children (Lego Club and Art Challenge) and
restarted monthly STEM program.
◊ Added a monthly sensory storytime.
◊ Summer Reading Club, sponsored by the Friends of the Haltom City Public Library, had 570
people register for the reading challenge and 3,043 people attend 90 programs for all age
groups.
Objectives for FY2023
◊ Replace power and data wiring under building.
◊ Update AV system throughout the library.
◊ Build new meeting/study room.
◊ Finish reclassification of Fiction section of the library.
◊ Expand collection of mobile technology for checkout (hotspots and tablets).
