SPECIAL EVENTS DEPARTMENT
MISSION STATEMENT:
The mission of the Special Events Department is to provide family-friendly events for all ages that will
enhance the quality of life for participants and meet the needs of the community.
Department at a Glance
The Special Events Department includes one full-time event coordinator. The Special Events budget
increased 5.24% in FY 2020-2021 due to merit and market adjustments for the event coordinator. Several

City events were canceled in 2020 due to Covid-19, such as the Rockin’ 4 of July fireworks show.
Key Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Increase access to quality parks and programs.
Objectives:
• Add events to reach under-served populations; partner with organizations that specialize with
those populations.
• Identify ways to incorporate new activities into existing events.
• Increase staffing to help with current events and allow event offerings to be expanded.
• Purchase a large mobile stage to improve City-wide events.
Goal 2
Improve residents’ quality of life.
Objectives:
• Coordinate events that foster an atmosphere where people can come together and connect.
• Encourage health and wellness at all events.
• Collect event feedback and make changes/upgrades based on participant ideas; keep events fresh
and new.
Goal 3
Serve as a source of community pride.
Objectives:
• Maintain excellent reputation of providing great events throughout the year.
• Offer creative and unique events/programs that promote tourism and positive attention.
• Increase reach through creative marketing.
• Increase and generate new revenue streams to promote fiscally responsible events.
Performance Objectives
• Continue to provide quality special events for the community.
• Identify partnerships that can enhance events and build more community ownership.
• Increase sponsorships and opportunities to increase revenue.
