PUBLIC LIBRARY DEPARTMENT
MISSION STATEMENT:
The Mansfield Public Library provides free and equal access to a broad range of informational resources,
creating opportunities for education, recreation and the pursuit of life-long learning.
Department at a Glance
The Mansfield Public Library is open six days per week and operates from a 17,000 square foot facility.
The Library Department includes the City Librarian, Adult Services Librarian, Youth Services Librarian,
Community Engagement Librarian, Library Assistant, Administrative Assistant, Library Systems
Manager, Library Technical Assistant and four part-time clerical staff (two full-time equivalents). The
Library’s budget increased 11.23% due to merit increase and a payroll correction, as well as software
upgrades. The Capital Improvement Plan for FY 2020-2021 includes $2,500,000 for a modification and
addition to the current building.
Key Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Continue to become an integral part of the Mansfield community by creating partnerships with
community and civic organizations.
Objectives:
• Develop the role of the Community Engagement Librarian.
• Develop and market the “Tech Truck” (new outreach vehicle) to increase outreach opportunities.
• Develop partnership with community organizations to create reoccurring programs.
Goal 2
Continue efforts to increase citizen awareness of the library services and resources provided.
Objectives:
• Utilize various strategies to ensure citizens have access to library resources.
• Actively market the Library’s collection, resources, classes and events.
• Use the outreach vehicle to engage under-served populations.
Goal 3
Enhance Library services with technology upgrades for public and staff use.
Objectives:
• Automate computer maintenance with Deepfreeze software to optimize computers’ condition and
availability.
• Provide specialized software for public use in order to achieve exemplary Library standards.
• Improve access to Library digital resources by providing Library E-Card with Quipu software.
Performance Objectives
• Expand the Mansfield Public Library’s “presence” in the community.
• Increase citizen awareness of the library’s programs of resources and services.
• Upgrade the Library’s technology to improve customer service.
