ANIMAL CARE AND CONTROL
Department at a Glance
The Animal Control Department includes the Animal Control Manager, three officers, two kennel
technicians and a receptionist. The Animal Control budget increased 4.78% due to a merit adjustment
and increased supply costs.
Key Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Develop a program to work in cooperation with MISD for animal education within the district.
Objectives:
• Create PowerPoint presentations to use in the classrooms as part of the program.
• Reach out to 150 students a year to provide educational sessions on responsible pet ownership.
Goal 2
Complete a comprehensive review of all 105 livestock permits.
Objectives:
• Provide Planning and Zoning with a current list of livestock owners and identify those permits
that do not fall within the Planning and Zoning guidelines.
• Refer permits that are not in compliance to Planning and Zoning and Code Compliance for action
in accordance with their regulations.
Goal 3
Conduct community educational meetings in conjunction with Community Resources programs within
the animal control assigned districts.
Objectives:
• Discuss current issues within that community at least three times a year.
• Educate the community on what is required of them as pet owners or concerned citizens.
Performance Objectives
• Work with the school district to create an educational program for students on the responsibilities
of pet ownership.
• Review current livestock permits for compliance with Planning and Zoning guidelines.
• Work with Community Resources to conduct an outreach program for citizens and pet owners.
