TRAINING

Department at a Glance

The Training Department includes two officers responsible for firearms training at the gun range. The
Training Department budget increased 0.26% in FY 2019-2020 due to a merit increase, offset by a
reduction in operational and maintenance costs.

Key Goals and Objectives

Goal 1
Completion of all sworn officers in training related to Civilian Interaction.

Objectives:
• All sworn police officers will be trained by the end of 2019.
• The training will consist of at least the 2-hour mandatory training class.

Goal 2
Identify and train two alternate Range Officers.

Objectives:
• The two range officers will assist in qualifications and department firearms training, especially in times
where the primary Range Master is unavailable.
• The two officers will be certified in firearms instruction, as well as armorer for the department’s pistols,
rifles, and shotguns to assist in maintenance and repair of weapons.

Goal 3
Develop additional instructors for all state-required training courses taught by the Mansfield Police
Division.

Objectives:
• Supplement department personnel who currently teach state certified courses.
• Ten qualified instructors will be developed and certified to teach in-service training courses where there
is a likely need for redundancy.

Performance Objectives
• Provide Civilian Interaction Training to all sworn officers by December 2019.
• Select and certify two new range instructors.
• Select and certify ten new instructors for state-required training.
