BUILDING SAFETY DEPARTMENT
MISSION STATEMENT:
The mission of the Building Safety Department is to provide a quality service to the residents and
property owners of Mansfield by ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of the public through
enforcement of the adopted codes.
Department at a Glance
The Building Safety Department includes the Chief Building Official, two plans examiners, two permit
clerks and five building inspectors. The Building Safety budget increased 8.98% due to merit and market
adjustments.
Key Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Expand our online application, permitting, and inspection presence.
Objectives:
• Provide clear and accessible online applications to enable customers to readily self-serve.
• Provide handouts and guides describing online permitting process and application.
• Evaluate and consider a new permitting and tracking system and inspection software.
Goal 2
Consider the department’s current and future needs and make necessary recommendations.
Objectives:
• Upgrade mobile technology for inspectors to capture real-time inspection.
• Develop and implement a vehicle replacement schedule.
• Evaluate and consider any equipment and communication devices for online presence.
Goal 3
Improve customer experience online and in person.
Objectives:
• Restructure the list of processes and responsibilities as we transform to online permitting and
inspection.
• Maintain front-end duty and phone coverage Monday through Friday (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) to
all public inquiries.
Performance Objectives
• Provide timely, professional, detailed plan review and inspections.
• Transition to digitized and web-based processes to improve efficiency.
• Continue to enhance customer service to residents and contractors.
