CONSUMER HEALTH PROGRAM GOALS
DESCRIPTION / MISSION
The Consumer Health Division protects the health of the public through routine inspections, education, monitoring and
enforcement of all food establishments, child care facilities, public/semi-public pools and waste haulers, as well as providing
educational classes, and vector control and monitoring for the presence of mosquito-borne illness.

GOALS
• To ensure that every regulated food service establishment, child care facility, public/semi-public pool and waste hauler is safe
and sanitary. (Safety and Security)
• To provide education and outreach for all regulated businesses as well as NRH citizens (Safety and Security)
• To decrease vector-borne illness by monitoring, responding, and educating on preventative measures (Safety and Security)
• To provide streamlined permitting for all businesses. (Efficient and Effective Delivery of City Services)

OBJECTIVES
• To complete 100% of required food establishment, child care, and public/semi-public pool inspections annually.
• To provide Food Handler and Child Care training to NRH businesses and provide community outreach on water safety, mosquito
control and prevention of vector-borne illness, and food safety.
• To set 7 gravid mosquito traps weekly throughout the City of NRH during the months of April through November.
• To invoice and renew permits of all regulated facilities with a maximum 90 day turnaround.

1. State law requiring Food Handler Card reciprocity, requirement for program standardization
June 2015 significantly decreased class attendance. Fewer classes offered FY 17-18 due to lack
of participation. Includes Child Care classes and Pre-Season Pool Safety Classes.
