ANIMAL CARE AND CONTROL
Department at a Glance
The Animal Control Department includes the Animal Control Manager, three officers, two kennel
technicians and a receptionist. The Animal Control budget increased 6.68% due to a merit increase and
market adjustments.
Key Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Improve city pet licensing compliance.
Objectives:
• Conduct a minimum of six licensing events throughout the fiscal year.
• Conduct two biannual licensing events at the new Man’s Best Field Dog Park, and one in each of
the four Animal Control districts.
Goal 2
Increase microchip implantation in pets.
Objectives:
• Give animal owners the option to purchase a microchip with registration in lieu of the impound
fee for the animals first impound violation.
• Host a microchip clinic twice a year to enhance animal/owner informational databases, allowing
staff to reunite an animal with its owner quickly.
Goal 3
Develop a comprehensive list of livestock owners who are continually “at large.”
Objectives:
• Meet with repeat offenders to try to pinpoint where the livestock are getting out and develop a
proactive plan to prevent further violations.
• Follow up with livestock owners a minimum of twice per year to ensure containment measures
are being implemented, to include a review of previous violations.
Performance Objectives
• Make it easier for the public to properly license their animals through community events.
• Encourage microchipping for pets.
• Work with livestock owners to reduce violations.
