TRAINING
Department at a Glance
The Training Department includes two officers responsible for firearms training at the gun range. The
Training Department budget increased 53.19% in FY 2020-2021 due to the addition of 1.5 full-time
equivalent positions.
Key Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Enhance training effectiveness by ensuring all Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE)
licensed employees complete TCOLE 2021 cycle training.
Objectives:
• All sworn police officers will complete 40 hours of TCOLE cycle training by March 1, 2021
through development of the training groups.
• All police dispatchers will complete 20 hours of required TCOLE cycle training by March 1,
2021.
Goal 2
Review all TCOLE courses taught by Mansfield employees, update lesson plans and presentations, and
transfer all training materials to the electronic training drive.
Objectives:
• The Training Department will require all instructors to comply with uniformity requirements regarding
lesson plans, presentations, and handouts.
• All lesson plans and presentations will be stored in one central location and available when needed by a
TCOLE instructor.
Goal 3
Develop training courses that will improve officers’ ability to transition between different firearms in a
tactical situation.
Objectives:
• Range instructors will create four training courses that focus on training officers to transition
between weapons.
• A minimum of four months of in-service firearms training will be devoted to training officers to
transition between different firearms in a tactical environment.
Performance Objectives
• Every sworn officer and dispatcher will complete all required training.
• Standardize training course materials and make them available electronically.
• Train specifically on weapons transitioning to better prepare officers for real world situations.
