BUILDING SAFETY DEPARTMENT
MISSION STATEMENT:
The mission of the Building Safety Department is to provide a quality service to the residents and
property owners of Mansfield by ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of the public through
enforcement of the adopted codes.
Department at a Glance
The Building Safety Department includes the Chief Building Official, two plans examiners, two permit
clerks and five building inspectors. The Building Safety budget increased 27.47% due to the addition of
two inspectors and related supplies and equipment.
Key Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Implementation of electronic plan review system by January 2020.
Objectives:
• Initiate electronic plans review.
• Continue to review plans efficiently, thoroughly, and in a timely manner.
• Full electronic review of plans by all departments involved in the process.
Goal 2
Provide online services for residents and contractors by January 2020.
Objectives:
• Acquire a system to enable customers to submit permit applications and required documents
online.
• Develop a system to enable the ability to check status of permits and inspections and request
inspections online.
• Implement a system to accept online payments for all permit types.
Goal 3
Provide responsive and efficient customer service.
Objectives:
• Ensure timely response to open records and permit information requests.
• Develop a.m./p.m. targets for inspection requests while maintaining next business day inspection.
• Provide thorough and efficient inspections of projects to verify code compliance in order to
protect public safety.
Performance Objectives
• Provide timely, professional, detailed plan review and inspections.
• Transition to digitized and web-based processes to improve efficiency.
• Continue to enhance customer service to residents and contractors.
