MISSION STATEMENT BUILDING INSPECTIONS / MULTI-FAMILY
To provide the highest quality, most comprehensive building inspections possible to protect the
health, safety and welfare of the public with regard to our existing and proposed structures and
improvements through the enforcement of our adopted codes and amendments, and being
committed to a standard of professional behavior that exemplifies the highest ideals and principles
of ethical conduct.
DIVISION DESCRIPTION
The Building Inspection, Multi-Family Division is responsible for the interpretation and
enforcement of adopted building and housing codes regarding construction, maintenance and the
rehabilitation of structures within the City. The Division is also responsible for the enforcement of
accessibility, zoning, electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning and energy
conservation codes and the issuance of all applicable permits.
PRIOR YEAR RESULTS & ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Issued 2,652 permits with a construction value of $31,907,167 collecting $575,397 in
permit fees.
Permitted 17 new homes valued at $3.3 million.
Conducted 212 Certificates of Occupancy inspections for new businesses including
Hilton Garden Inn, Tiff’s Treats, Jack in the Box and the Public Storage expansion.
Conducted 486 Rental Property Inspections of the 1350 Properties Registered in 2018.
FUTURE INITIATIVES
Upgrade permit and code enforcement software to expedite permit process for citizens.
Strengthen the enforcement of the Multi-Family licensing and inspection program by
st
inspecting each property by May 31 of each year, escalating issues as necessary.
Complete Document Imaging project, which includes scanning and indexing of historical
records including building plans and permits expediting all requests for information, that
are frequently associated with redevelopment efforts.
