         CHILDRENS SERVICES
                                                   DESCRIPTION / MISSION
          The Children’s Services staff provides professional and friendly assistance to young library patrons and their caregivers, helping
          them to meet their personal informational, educational, and recreational goals. Children’s Services provides an attractive collection
          of books and other resources designed to stimulate young readers. They provide reading guidance to young readers through
          about age 17, and teach regular Storytime and toddler classes that emphasize creative expression, social skills, listening,
          comprehension, and the foundations of reading. They develop and conduct an annual summer reading program to encourage
          children to keep learning during their summer school break. The staff works with area schools to provide support for students and
          the curriculum.

          • To develop and conduct an educational Mayor's Summer Reading Club designed to improve children’s readiness to excel in

          • To conduct annual Outcomes-Based Evaluation (OBE) review of the Mayor's Summer Reading Club. (Positive City Image)

                                                        OBJECTIVES
          • Selectors will complete three continuing education classes on collection development or collection management.
          • Teach regular Story Time, Toddler Time, and Babygarten classes for very young children to encourage a love of reading and
           teach pre-literacy skills.
          • Present six events for young adults including the annual Mid-Cities Teen Book Fest to encourage reading among teenage
           patrons.
          • Continue offering monthly Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Story Time classes to teach STEM-literacy skills.
          • Provide library tours for schools and daycare centers in the community.
          • Develop, conduct, schedule, and evaluate outcome measures for an eight week Mayor's Summer Reading Club program.
           Maintain high enrollment in the program. Provide annual report.
