Strategic Focus Area One: Organizational Excellence

Bedford is committed to becoming a High(er) Performing Organization. Excellent performance aligns efforts
that drive internal effectiveness with those that create positive external impact.
Initiatives:
1. Perform an Asset (City Facilities/Properties) Audit
2. Create a Capital Asset Strategic Plan
3. Continue evaluation of Animal Shelter and determine best solution
4. Evaluate the City (Image)
5. Prioritize recruitment and retention efforts with particular attention to Public Safety

Strategic Focus Area Two: Economic Development

High quality economic growth and business development expands and diversifies the tax base and enhances
the quality of life for Bedford residents.
Initiatives:
1. Develop Economic Development Zones
2. Review all economic development policies and incentives
3. Initiate and guide development of the Bedford Commons and Gateway projects
4. Create a plan to address large commercial vacancies
5. Initiate events that draw visitors and boost the local economy
6. Conduct efforts to grow sales and hotel occupancy tax base

Strategic Focus Area Three: Transformation & Redevelopment

Bedford is committed to cultivating vibrant, unique spaces that enhance the community and benefit residents,
businesses and visitors. Revitalized residential, commercial and public spaces reflect a thriving community,
create identity and attract investment.
Initiatives:
1. Strong focus on Code Enforcement Efforts
2. Update Subdivision Regulations (Code of Ordinances)
3. Focus on improved infrastructure
4. Update the Zoning Ordinance
5. Develop a Strategic Redevelopment Plan, with special attention to South Bedford
6. Implement the recently adopted Comprehensive Master Plan
7. Improve City buildings (City Hall, new/enhanced Central Fire Station, fire station and training facility)
8. Create a plan for Bedford School
9. Elevate the City (image)
10. Beautify public areas (facilities, grounds, medians, intersections)
11. Create a unique Bedford identity and a plan to develop it
12. Efforts to revitalize and/or redevelop apartments
Strategic Focus Area Four: Quality of Life

Bedford aspires to remain a top choice community for living. We provide sound infrastructure, quality facilities,
inviting spaces and opportunities for residents to engage and connect.
Initiatives:
1. Implement the Master Parks, Trails, and Bike Plan
2. Determine feasibility of an event venue (performance center)
3. Improve/expand upon existing events
4. Celebrate and honor Bedford’s history
5. Ensure compliance with Multi-family standards and work to enhance apartment living standards
6. Evaluate and prioritize traffic and speeding
