1.4.1 Address Healthcare Gaps
Summary:
On June 23, 2020, the Arlington City Council created the
Unity Council made up of the fifteen (15) members of the
City’s Community Relations Commission and fifteen (15)
additional members appointed by the Mayor and Council
members. The Unity Council began meeting in July of 2020
and presented its recommendations to the City Council in
February 2021.
Recommendation 4.1.A focused on creating a dedicated
city staff position of Chief Equity Officer to implement and
monitor strategies targeted to erase disparity in healthcare
for residents of Arlington. This position will report directly
to the Arlington City Manager and work in collaboration
with health care providers.
Chief Equity Officer will work with Fire Department to
track key health data. The City is also working to expand
the existing relationship with Tarrant County Public Health,
JPS, THR and MCA to increase health resources available to
Arlington residents. Recruiting for the Chief Equity Officer
position will begin in November 2021.
