MISSION / PROGRAMS / SERVICES:
The Mission of the Watauga City Secretary’s Office is to ensure continuity in the municipal legislative
process through the guardianship of City Council, Boards, Commissions, and Committees agendas,
minutes, ordinances, resolutions, board appointments and elections, as well as to promote quality
service to all customers in a cost effective and efficient manner.
x The City Secretary serves at the discretion of the City Council, and is responsible for attending
the all City Council meetings and receives and addresses all complaints/concern in regard to
City Services.
x The City Secretary manages and maintains all official records of the City such as:
Ordinances
Resolutions
Contracts
Agendas & Minutes
Liens
Mixed Beverage Licenses/Massage Establishment Licenses
Insurance Coverage and Claims
x City Secretary serves as the Chief Election Officer and Records Management Officer for the City
FY2019-2020 HIGHLIGHTS / ACHIEVEMENTS:
x Assisted with social media postings and interaction on behalf of the City of Watauga
x Successfully managed the Watauga 101 Citizen’s Academy Program
x Updated and codified City Code Ordinances
x Responded to Public Information Requests in a timely manner in accordance with the Texas
Public Information Act
x Managed and processed all inquiries and responses received by the City under “Contact Us”
x Provided daily administrative support to the Mayor and members of the City Council, City
Departments and the various City Boards as needed
x Conducted Special Charter Election in November 2019
x Received candidate application filings for the May 2020 General Election and conducted the
ballot drawing and candidate orientation for the May 2020 General Election
x Communicated with the City Council on election matters resulting from the COVID-19 crisis and
assisted with the postponement of the General Election to November 2020
x Facilitated the annual retreat
x Prepared the meetings minutes for Regular, Special, and Workshop meeting of the City Council
x Accepted applications for the various City Boards, Committees, and Commissions
x Ensured records retention schedules were kept and supervised the destruction of City records in
accordance with Records Retentions Schedules
x Created Standard Operating Procedures for a number of City Secretary Department functions
x Assisted with incorporating changes to the Council Rules of Procedures
x Completed the posting and publishing of agendas for the City Council and the various Boards,
Committees, and Commissions
