MISSION / PROGRAMS / SERVICES:

The City of Watauga Wastewater Division:
x Maintains 81 miles of sewer mains
x Maintain compliance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality regulations in
monitoring and reporting overflows
x Perform preventive maintenance flushing of sewer mains to reduce blockages
x Replace and repair sewer mains and service lines
x Perform video inspections to locate deficiencies for repair or replacement
x Perform manhole and main line inspections to identify and repair inflow infiltration
x Inspect grease and grit traps to ensure customers are in compliance with City ordinances
x Provide world class customer service to citizens

FY2019-2020 HIGHLIGHTS / ACHIEVEMENTS:

x Performed preventative flushing of sewer mains to prevent blockages and unauthorized sewage
bypass
x Video inspected 20,000 feet of sewer mains to locate problem areas
x Repaired and replaced numerous customer sewer service lines in streets and right-of-ways
x Repaired 12 manholes to stop inflow infiltration
x Inspected grease traps to ensure compliance with City Ordinance # 1060 to prevent Biochemical
Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Total Suspended Solids (TSS) as well as unauthorized discharge

FY2020-2021 GOALS/ OBJECTIVES:

x Continue video inspections, manhole inspections for inflow/infiltration and preventative
maintenance flushing of sewer mains to unstop and prevent sewer main blockages as well as
locate problem areas and repair as necessary
x Major problem areas will be listed for inclusion in the Capital Improvement Plan
x Grease traps will be inspected monthly to ensure compliance with City Ordinances
x Continue to repair or replace old deteriorated sewer mains
x Continue to provide world class customer service

MAJOR BUDGETARY ISSUES AND OPERATIONAL TRENDS:

x Must remain in compliance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ)
regulations
x Perform routine sewer main cleaning to prevent blockages and unauthorized sewage bypass
x Repair or replace damaged sewer mains and sewer service lines within the City
x Perform video inspections to identify problem areas in need of repair or replacement
x Perform manhole inspections to prevent inflow infiltration
x Perform grease trap inspections to ensure customers remain in compliance with City Ordinance
