Department: Support Services Division: Information Technology
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Information Technology (IT) Division serves other City departments through a series of services that include integrating computer
systems, coordinating, negotiating and managing information technology related contracts, technology assistance, and support. The
Division creates the technological environment that enables City employees to quickly access vital information using the most efficient
and cost effective hardware and computer systems. Staff is dedicated to providing quality service through teamwork, partnerships, and
developing team and individual strengths.
FY 2019-2020 HIGHLIGHTS
∗ Rolled out City-wide cyber security training for all City of Bedford users.
∗ Upgraded wireless network to provide the Parks Division the ability to roll out the smart water sprinkler system.
∗ Assisted the Police Department with the roll-out of the new Zuercher software for public safety.
∗ Installed a network monitoring server to better troubleshoot and be more proactive in response to network issues using open
source tools and with no cost to the City. Saved the City upwards of $50,000 for an-over-the counter solution.
∗ Upgraded the Library wireless network to provide better coverage, bandwidth, and enhanced customer-facing tools to better serve
the end users of this service.
∗ Implemented a mobile device management software for CJIS compliance that manages all Police and Fire mobile phones.
∗ Competed 600 desktop/laptop upgrades to Windows 10.
∗ Created a cost-effective digital signage solution for the Library, saving $3,000 on annual subscription services.
