members and catch up on where they are in life since
the last meeting in March. Several have obtained new
jobs, and all seemed eager to return to in‐person
learning at school. Members also stated that they have
missed Explorers and are ready to get back into training
and serving the community. During subsequent Zoom
meetings officers engaged Explorers in discussions of
search and seizure, criminal law, and procedures related
to competition scenarios. The meetings were very
productive, informative, and interactive. Three
Explorers are scheduled to participate in National Night
Out on October 6, wearing the Nate the Night and
McGruff costumes. In‐person meetings are scheduled

During the 4 quarter, the APD Hometown Recruiting
Program has completed their first 6‐weeks curriculum
online and moved to in‐person learning at the Career &
Tech Center as of August 28th. Students are following
strict safety guidelines for these classes and managing
social distancing in and out of the buildings. The
program will continue to adjust expectations and
standards as the COVID‐19 pandemic continues.
We have seen a slight decrease in HRP membership
activity towards the end of this quarter. Students are
required to attend the academy in‐person for the
remainder of the program due to the nature of the
curriculum and training. Some students and families have
chosen to drop the HRP course due to health safety
concerns that they currently have.
