Accomplishments:
The Water Environmental Federation (WEF) awarded Public Works staff as the best in
the nation in wastewater operations at the Ops Challenge Competition in New Orleans.
In March 2019, the Municipal Court implemented a new docketing system to assist in
expediting case flow and payment processing, reducing the time patrons spend in court
intake lines and docket settings. They also added specialized dockets to assist with the
expedition of Code cases, defendants in crisis with either mental health and/or substance
abuse issues, and individuals who do not speak or read the English language.
In its first full year, the new in-house veterinarian program at the animal shelter is on track
to provide services to over 880 animals. This includes spay /neuter surgeries,
vaccinations, heartworm tests, microchip and treatments for illness and injury. Previously
staff was transporting animals to local veterinary offices for these services. The program
has saved significant staff time and improved overall efficiency for the Animal Services
Division
