BUDGET OVERVIEW
COUNCIL GOAL 2:
EFFICIENT, EFFECTIVE
TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM
Strive to provide improved traffic flow and mass
transit opportunities for our growing community.
Objectives:
Maintain leadership role on regional transportation issues
Continue to address congestion as it relates to local traffic flow
Continue to address street conditions
Develop transportation options around local rail stations
Accomplishments:
Construction was completed on the Smithfield and Iron Horse stations as part of the new
TEXRail commuter rail service. Rail service now connects NRH with the City of Fort
Worth, DFW Airport, and other parts of northeast Tarrant County.
The realignment of Smithfield Road between Davis Boulevard and Mid-Cities Boulevard
was completed in January 2019. The project improved traffic flow and safety, as well as
street conditions.
Improvements were also made to the intersection of Davis Boulevard and Mid-Cities
Boulevard, increasing the intersection’s capacity and decreasing wait times for motorists.
The widening of Rufe Snow Drive between Mid Cities and Ridgetop Road is anticipated
to be completed in August. This section of Rufe Snow is being widened to a 7-lane
concrete roadway, matching the section of Rufe Snow south of Mid-Cities. Drainage,
sidewalk and intersection improvements are also part of this project.
Earlier this year an Automatic Road Analyzer (ARAN) vehicle with high tech sensors and
imaging was used for the first time in NRH to collect information about street pavement
conditions. The information will help us prioritize and plan annual street maintenance
activities.
