FIRE PREVENTION

               Department at a Glance

               The Fire Prevention  Department  consists of the Fire  Marshal,  four  fire  inspectors,  and  a  records
               manager/prevention coordinator. The  general responsibilities include  public  education, fire inspection,
               fire investigation, gas well inspections and emergency  management.  The department  budget increased
               19.57% in FY 2019-2020 due to a merit increase and the addition of the records manager position.

               Key Goals and Objectives

               Goal 1
               Proceed with the adoption and utilization of the 2018 International Fire Code with Local Amendments.

               Objectives:
                   •  Purchase 2018 IFC Code Documentation with NCTCOG local amendments.
                   •  Train and educate Fire Prevention Staff in new codes and amendments.
                   •  Revise and update department policies and procedures to coincide with the new codes and
                       amendments.

               Goal 2
               Streamline Fire Prevention Activities.

               Objectives:
                   •  Enhance the  paperless  process  of  fire  safety inspections to maintain annual inspections of all
                       businesses within the city.
                   •  Enhance plan review and permitting processes  to  provide  improved customer service  and
                       establish electronic plan review system.
                   •  Improve processing of plans, inspections, permits by creating and utilizing on line services. This
                       will provide a quicker turn around for all prevention activities.

               Goal 3
               Establish an organizational structure within Fire Prevention.

               Objectives:
                   •  Establish a rank structure for prevention personnel that will reduce the span of  control and
                       provide needed organizational structure.
                   •  Cross train staff members in all areas of duties and responsibilities allowing for better support of
                       citizens, business owners, developers and other city staff.
                   •  Establish  training  opportunities to  assist  with  professional development,  this  will  prepare
                       potential leaders for more responsibilities.

               Performance Objectives

                   •  Implement policies and procedures to comply with the 2018 International Fire Code with Local
                       Amendments.
                   •  Streamline Fire Prevention activities and processes.
                   •  Develop a formal organizational structure within the department.
