PATROL
Department at a Glance
The Police Patrol Department includes the Assistant Police Chief, one captain, five sergeants, six
corporals, and fifty four patrol officers. One part-time position was converted to full-time, and six new
patrol officers were added in FY 2019-2020. The Patrol Department increased 14.55% due to a merit
increase and the addition of personnel.
Key Goals and Objectives
Goal 1
Increase the amount of driving based judgement training.
Objectives:
• All of Patrol Division successfully completes the “Below 100” training program.
• Quarterly roll-call training by driving instructors to re-enforce good judgement.
Goal 2
Re-implement the use of an Officer Committee in the Patrol Division.
Objectives:
• Improve the communication directly between Patrol Officers and Police Administration using
representatives selected by their respective shifts.
• Receive problems, solutions and feedback from non-supervisory patrol representatives in
reference to improving the Patrol Division.
Goal 3
Conduct a minimum of two special details a month per shift to curb issues during specific shift time.
Objectives:
• Through analytics, develop monthly special details to deal with problems/crimes on specific
shifts.
• Increase officers’ knowledge in problem areas/times on their shift.
Performance Objectives
• Increase officers’ situational awareness to reduce fleet accidents by 25%.
• Conduct at least four meetings of the Officer Committee to enhance communication and input
from frontline officers directly to administration.
• Conduct at least 24 special details per shift in FY 2019-2020 to decrease activity related to
specific crime-focused issues developed through analytics.
