Tourism Fund
The Tourism Fund is one of the largest special revenue funds. This fund supports programs and events that
promote tourism and attract visitors to the City of Bedford, including cultural arts and community events such
as the July 4th Festival and Bedford's signature event, Beats and Eats.
The Tourism Fund’s primary source of revenue originates from the Hotel Occupancy Tax. Hotel occupancy
taxes are collected from each of the nine hotels within the City limits. The City hotel occupancy tax rate is 7%
of taxable receipts and revenues are submitted on a monthly basis.
The use of Hotel Occupancy Tax revenue is regulated by the Texas Tax Code, Section 351.101. Expenditures
in this fund must directly enhance and promote tourism and the convention and hotel industry, and must
clearly fit into one of the following categories:
1. Funding the establishment, improvement, or maintenance of a convention center or visitor information
center.
2. Paying the administrative costs for facilitating convention registration.
3. Paying for advertising, solicitations, and promotions that attract tourists and convention delegates to the
city or its vicinity.
4. Expenditures that promote the arts.
5. Funding historical restoration or preservation programs.
6. Signage directing tourists to sights and attractions that are visited frequently by hotel guests in the
municipality.
7. Administrative and operational costs incurred directly in the promotion and servicing expenditures
authorized above.
