Director of Public Works
Administration and Engineering
The Public Works Administration Division is responsible for the overall management of Public Works. Responsibilities
include personnel services, records management, and budget. The Division also provides communication to the public
regarding emergency and maintenance projects/programs.
The Engineering Division is responsible for technical review and inspection of proposed public infrastructure with new
development, oodplain administration, Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects, permits for franchise utilities,
compliance with stormwater requirements, and project management of various other projects within the City. In addition,
the Engineering Department strives to support other departments in the planning process of new developments, plan and
execute the city's water, wastewater, stormwater, and roadway CIP, and provide a wide range of technical assistance and
eld support including utility and oodplain information to other City departments, citizens, engineers, builders, and various
interested parties.
Street
The Street Division is responsible for the maintenance of the City's street infrastructure, curb and gutter, sidewalks, and
driveway approaches. The Street Division oversees preventive maintenance and repair of curbs, gutters, sidewalks and
ramps, lane and intersection marking, and street and traf c signs throughout the city. Traf c Operations oversees the
maintenance and repair of signal heads and controllers, pedestrian push buttons for crosswalks, school zone lights, and
related battery backup systems, along with the overall function of the city's traf c signal devices.
Water and Wastewater
The Water Division is responsible for delivering safe, clean water at adequate pressure to customers. This is accomplished
through the maintenance, repair and replacement of water lines, meters, re hydrants and valves, maintenance and
operation of two wells, and the chemical feed systems used to treat the water they produce. These chemical feed systems
are monitored by City personnel and the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA), and daily bacterial
testing of the water system. Maintenance of the system also includes dead-end main ushing which is performed monthly
as required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to sustain adequate chlorine residual in the far reaches of
the system.
The City of Bedford Wastewater Division is responsible for the protection of public health and environmental safety through
the collection and disposal of household and commercial sewer waste. This is accomplished by the repair, replacement,
maintenance, video inspection and cleaning of the City sewer mains and services. Cleaning and rehabilitation of the sewer
lines and manholes is performed to help reduce the in ltration of rainwater into the sanitary sewer system.
Stormwater
The Stormwater Administration Division is responsible for providing adequate collection and transportation of stormwater
with the least amount of damage to real or personal property. This is accomplished by maintaining the drainage channels
and the stormwater collection system through mowing, debris removal, erosion control, repair and maintenance of the
public storm drain system.
Fleet
The Fleet Maintenance Division is responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and ef ciency of all City-owned vehicles and
equipment, including emergency response units, public works vehicles, and specialized equipment. The division provides
comprehensive support through preventive maintenance, timely repairs, and life-cycle management to keep the City’s
operations running smoothly. By maintaining a well-managed eet, the division helps City departments deliver essential
services to the community while reducing costs, improving safety, and maximizing operational ef ciency.
