FY 2024-2025 Highlights
Planning
Partnered with Kendig Keast Collaborative in re-writing the Zoning Ordinance as the rst step in the implementation of
the newly adopted comprehensive plan.
Building Permitting/Inspections
Continued permitting procedures to ensure a streamlined process.
Improved the website to provide more resources for customers in applying for building permits and understanding the
inspection process.
Introduced the updated International Code Council building codes for Council consideration.
Neighborhood Services
Introduced for City Council consideration revised ordinances regulating how multifamily registration and inspections are
conducted, including providing provisions to ensure tenants are aware of their rights.
Introduced for City Council consideration of new property maintenance codes that will cover all properties and provide
staff with tools to enforce property maintenance on aging commercial properties.
Continued with the limited implementation of the recently adopted Long-Term Rental Ordinance, establishing an of cial
policy for registering, inspecting, and monitoring long-term rentals (those exceeding 30 days).
Goals
Planning
Continue the implementation of the newly adopted Comprehensive Plan by continuing to work with Kendig Keast
Collaborative in drafting and presenting for adoption a new Zoning Ordinance.
Improve the development process to streamline processing of applications and improve resources on our website to
better educate the public on the development process.
Support Administration to continue progress in creating a development plan for Bedford Commons.
Once the new Zoning Ordinance is adopted, begin the drafting of new Subdivision Regulations for Council consideration.
Building Permitting/Inspections
Continue improving the permitting process to streamline and make more user friendly.
Continue to educate property owners on the permitting requirements.
Improve overall plan review timeframes.
Neighborhood Services
Continue to work with residents and property owners to ensure all properties are in general compliance with adopted
codes.
Work with Multi-Family property managers to improve Property Maintenance Inspections scores throughout the City.
Implement newly adopted property maintenance code and focus on commercial property maintenance.
