             Summary:
                                                                              Volunteer Hours
During the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, volunteerism
was very limited at the shelter. Since re-opening, 8,000
volunteer hours have not recovered. The Animal 7,000
Socialization and Enrichment Program is designed to
                                                              6,000
address this issue by engaging volunteers and
             promoting volunteer retention. 5,000
                                                              4,000
             Update: 3,000
While current volunteer hours are below desired 2,000
levels, this is largely attributed to the recent relaunch 1,000
of programs following a short period of non- -
recruitment dedicated to program development. We FY 2021 FY 2022 FY 2023 FY 2024 FY 2025
anticipate a significant increase in volunteer hours (Q3)
throughout the summer, which typically experiences
             higher rates of volunteer participation.

When stray animals are reported to Arlington Animal Return-to-Owner Rate - Stray Animals
Services, the primary goal of both Animal Services Officers 40%
and shelter operations staff is to reunite lost animals with
their families, therefore supporting the families and the 35%

             Update: 15%
Arlington Animal Services seeks to increase the percentage
                                                                 10%
of animals returned to their owners from 21% of stray
intakes to 35% of stray intakes by utilizing the community, 5%
GIS mapping, and safety net programs. Currently, the 0%
             average return-to-owner rate has maintained the 35% FY 2021 FY 2022 FY 2023 FY 2024 FY 2025
goal, while the average live release rate is 79% due to
negative impacts over overcrowding and fewer positive
             outcomes overall.
