FY 2023-2024 Highlights
Parks
2-5 year-old playground unit installed at Harris Ryals Park.
1700 Linear feet of new wrought iron fence installed at Stormie Jones Park Soccer elds.
Installed new LED xture on existing pole at Central Park.
Grand Opening of the accessible playground structure at Central Park.
Roy Savage Pool repair, including new pumps, rebuilt sand lter, and new wall anchor ties for swimming lane ropes for
the swim team.
Selected a new city-wide mowing contractor.
Installed 200 cubic feet of Engineered Wood Fiber at all playgrounds.
Hosted the annual Chunk Your Junk, Crud Cruiser and Paper Shred events.
Recycled over 1500lbs of e-waste (laptops, personal computers, tablets, LCD televisions, etc.).
Recycled 2000lbs of scrap metal.
Recycled over 13,000lbs of Household Hazardous Waste (HHW).
Recycled 3,900lbs of oil, antifreeze and paint.
Over 20,000lbs of paper was shredded at the Paper Shred Day event (337 residents participated).
Had 177 households participate in the Crud Cruiser event.
Recreation
Established a new management agreement that allows GenPlay sports to manage the baseball/softball elds and
concessions at Generations Park. This agreement will bring in an estimated $100K in revenue annually to the City.
Re-established the agreement with BESA for the use of the soccer elds at Stormie Jones and Meadow Park that will
bring in an estimated 20k in revenue annually to the City.
Hosted over 20 community special events that had an estimated 50K attendees.
Installation of three outdoor lightning detection systems at Stormie Jones Park, Meadow Park, and Generations Park.
Purchase of new ADA tness equipment for the Bedford Center YMCA.
Over 4600 individuals visited Roy Savage pool.
29 summer pool rentals.
Seniors
Increased membership to over 750 members (up approximately 350 members over the last year).
In the process of remodeling the property at 3524 Central Dr into the new Senior Center.
Hosted over 20 special events this year.
Offer 20-25 weekly classes to include group exercise, arts and crafts, card games and technology-based classes.
Hosted 23 senior dances at the Bedford Center YMCA.
On track to increase revenue by 63% in this scal year.
Cul tural Ar ts
Commissioned a Sculpture at Generations Park.
Increased programming and art education with new events and activities.
Hosted new community concert series "Bedford in Bloom".
Crosswalk art project at Bell Manor Elementary.
