owner is ongoing, the code ca se ha s been closed out, providing for Neighborhood Services sta ff to pla ce their
efforts elsewhere in the com m unity.
3228 Hick ory - The property a t 3228 Hick ory wa s a ha bitua l code offender, continuously pla cing ex cessive a m ounts
of tra sh a nd debris in the ya rd of the hom e. The C ity wa s forced to a ba te the property a couple of yea rs a go, a nd
a ga in m ost recently in m id- Februa ry 20 21. In order to prevent continuous offenses a nd nonstop efforts by
Neighborhood Services sta ff, the C ity work ed diligently with the hom eowners a nd eventua lly entered into a n
a greem ent to wa ive a ssessm ent of the a ba tem ent fees incurred by the C ity, if the viola tor, who lived in the hom e,
wa s rem oved from the prem ises perm a nently. The hom eowners signed the a greem ent on A pril 30 a nd the
viola tor m oved out of the hom e on Ma y 1st. The debris ha s been rem oved. R egula r m onitoring will occur a t the site
to ensure a ccum ula tion of the debris does not occur a nd the hom e rem a ins in com plia nce. This unique a pproa ch
will sa ve the C ity signi{ca nt tim e a nd effort going forwa rd a nd a llow Neighborhood Services of{cers to focus on
other initia tives.
C om m unity E duca tion/Outrea ch - Neighborhood Services sta ff ha ve begun to identify a rea s in which we ca n work
with our C om m unica tions Of{ce to better inform our residents a nd property owners of certa in policies tha t a re
lik ely not genera lly k nown by the public. For ex a m ple, property owners a re responsible for m a inta ining the right-
of- wa y im m edia tely a dja cent to their priva te property. A lso, m a ny residents a ren’t a wa re tha t there a re tim ing
restrictions rega rding when a hom eowner’s tra sh/ recycling bins m a y be put out prior to pick - up a nd put a wa y
a fter pick - up. We a re ex cited to work with our C om m unica tion Tea m to put together som e crea tive wa ys ( videos,
etc.) to sha re this inform a tion with our residents.
P olicy - Neighborhood Services Sta ff ha ve been work ing with the C ity’s new lega l counsel to begin to a ddress
possible C ode revisions, which will provide cla rity for both residents a nd the Neighborhood Services Of{cers
enforcing these regula tions. C ity Sta ff pla n to bring these ( a nd lik ely m ore) proposed edits forwa rd for C ouncil’s
considera tion in June 20 21.
