CIP AND CAPITAL PROJECTS FUNDS
As can be seen on the CIP summary schedule and detail schedule on the following pages, the
City will focus on major infrustructure upgrades, as well as continuing our street overlay
program. Actual program expenditures may vary depending on changes in priority or addition
or deletion of projects or emergencies.
In the current year schedule, projects for FY2020-2021 total $14.9 million in capital projects
(not including capital equipment). Many of these projects are continuation of projects that
began in prior years. The $14.9 million is comprised of $4.6 million for streets projects such
as Whitley Road phase 3 and 4, Bowie Road, street overlays and sidewalks, $2.3 million in
drainage projects, and $5.145 million in water and sewer projects. $2.7 million in funding will
be for building improvements, parks, a Fire Station facility renovation project, continuation of
the installation of a splash pad at Capp Smith Park, trails, and other parks projects.. Other
improvement projects include continuation of the Branding signs throughout the City of
Watauga and continuation of the Green Ribbon Project which will beautify the 377 corridor. A
restaurant incubator site, funded by the Economic Development Corporation is included this
year to spur economic development in the City by providing a low cost startup for restaurant
entrepreneurs. The City is applying for an EDA grant to partially fund this project.
