MISSION STATEMENT
To provide for effective administration of Public Works activities that ensures safe and
efficient water and sewer systems. To ensure that all water and sewer improvements, as
well as all City projects, are designed and constructed in accordance with City regulations
and accepted engineering and construction principles and practices.
DIVISION DESCRIPTION
The Engineering/Construction Division of the Public Works Department is responsible for the
overall supervision and administration of engineering and construction activities. The Engineering
Division is responsible for reviewing and/or preparing construction plans, issuing permits, and
inspecting new construction of all public water and sanitary sewer systems. The Engineering
Division also reviews and prepares long-range planning for water and sanitary sewer
improvements. The Geographical Information System (GIS) staff within the Engineering Division
prepares and maintains the water and sanitary sewer inventory system, and maintains and
updates all water and sanitary sewer maps.
PRIOR YEAR RESULTS & ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Completed construction of the 44 Year CDBG Grant Project/Sheri Lane from Reed to
Cavender (water and sewer portion).
Coordinated with Trinity River Authority on finalizing design of Walker-Calloway
Wastewater Outfall System Rehabilitation Project Phase 2.
Began design of 2020 Water Main Replacements.
Completed design on 2020 Sanitary Sewer Replacements.
Hired a consulting firm to conduct an update to the Water and Wastewater Impact Fee
Study.
Hired a consulting firm to in completing the EPA’s unfunded mandate for a Risk and
Resilience Assessment & Emergency Management Plan for our water system.
Review of numerous private developments with public water and sanitary sewer.
FUTURE INITIATIVES

Complete design and begin construction of the 46 Year CDBG Grant Project/Livingston
Drive from Pipeline Road to 665 feet south (water and sewer portion).
Coordinate with Trinity River Authority on Walker-Calloway Wastewater Outfall System
Rehabilitation Project Phase 2 construction.
