MISSION STATEMENT
The Hurst Fire Department is committed to excellence in providing aggressive fire
prevention, professional fire protection, technical rescue, emergency medical service,
hazardous material response and emergency management by developing and
implementing policies and practices to deliver excellent and responsive services to the
Citizens of Hurst.
DIVISION DESCRIPTION
The Fire Department, to help make Hurst a sustainable and safe place to live work and play
provides fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical services, hazardous materials
containment, explosive response, fire code enforcement, fire safety education providing a full
spectrum of emergency response to make the community more sustainable. Activities include
training, annual business inspections of commercial occupancies, multifamily dwelling smoke
detector inspections, fire safety education in public schools, CPR instruction, annual testing of the
City fire hydrants, fire equipment readiness, fire code enforcement, new building plan review, and
departmental budgeting.
PRIOR YEAR RESULTS & ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Covid-19 preparedness and response was the major focus for much of the year. It
affected all aspects of Fire Department operations.
Specified a new fire apparatus for budgetary purposes.
Instituted a new training software that will help deliver continuing education.
Instituted a new time collection/scheduling software.
Participated with Bedford, Euless and Grapevine in acquiring a grant to develop a debris
management plan.
Delivered CPR, First Aid Training, Stop the Bleed training to Donna Park Elementary
staff.
Participated with Tarrant County and NCTCOG to renew the FEMA approved Hazard
Mitigation Action Plan.
FUTURE INITIATIVES
Continually evaluate services to assure they are responsive, innovative and sustainable.
Continually evaluate FF safety and health programs.
Expand training opportunities that will help with personnel development.
