LIBRARY
Mission Statement
The mission of the Haltom City Public Library is to serve as a vital community resource providing
free access to information for all people.
Accomplishments of FY2018
✓ Birdville Independent School District (BISD)/Public Libraries Partnership: BISD and the five
BISD public libraries sponsored the 2 annual Birdville Reads event to promote the

Summer Reading Club 2018 at the Fine Arts & Athletic Complex which saw 1800 students
& families & went to West Birdville Grade School library during month of June to check out
books to students.
✓ Partnered with University of Texas at Dallas to offer more science programming, e.g.,
Super Science Saturdays (interactive science programs) and science exhibits.
✓ Ladies’ Night Out, successful fundraiser which has brought in over $17,000.
✓ Partnering with the Fire Services Board, Birdville Museum and Senior Citizen Center to
assist in their fundraising efforts (i.e., selling tickets, books, t-shirts & lawn signs at library).
✓ Quality programming, e.g., many new teen programs for the first time like Teen Pumpkin
Smash & The Anti-Teen Valentine’s Day programs; A Night of Romance celebrating
Romance authors; AARP income tax preparation (18th year), Summer Reading Club (20
+ years) with activities 5 days a week and sometimes 6 days a week; bi-lingual story times.
✓ Awarded, for tenth year, the Achievement of Library Excellence Award from the Texas
Municipal Library Directors Association (an affiliate of the Texas Municipal League).
✓ Homebound Services: delivery of books, movies; reference to permanent or temporarily
homebound. Very few libraries offer homebound service.
✓ Outreach Services: taking library programming, library card sign-up, puppet shows,
presentations, etc., out to the community. Weekly visits to day care centers.
✓ Partnering with Art in the City group to exhibit artwork in the library.
✓ Permanent home of City’s annual photography contest Best of Show winners.
Objectives for FY 2019
➢ Provide a facility that is a destination hub for the community (resources and meeting
spaces).
➢ Continue to provide and improve access to information, education and leisure learning (in-
house and remote).
➢ Provide state of the art library services and programming to users of all ages to explore
personal growth.
