About the Cover
Iron Horse Golf Course celebrated their grand reopening the weekend of Sept.
18, 2020, following a 10-month renovation project. The project included
extensive drainage improvements, widening of the playing corridors
throughout the course, new irrigation on 12 of the 18 holes, updating the 13th
and 14th holes, new better Billy Bunkers throughout, a new set for forward
tees that play at 4,300 yards, and updates to the clubhouse and pro shop. The
course logo and signage were also updated.
Located in a picturesque setting among the rolling terrain of North Richland
Hills, Iron Horse Golf Course was originally designed by Dick Phelps and
opened in 1988. The improvements were designed by noted golf course
architect Jeffrey Brauer. While owned by the city, the golf course is not funded
by tax dollars. It operates like a business, with revenues from the course
paying for its operational expenses and debt service. The course hosts more
than 50,000 rounds a year.
